Jeff Brown
Founder and editor of Bipolarist. Openly bipolar since 2003. Inventor on three patents.
Jeff writes most of what you read here: the essays, the research reads and the how-tos behind the Solutions tools.
Lived experience
Misread at school and misdiagnosed in treatment, Jeff was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in his early twenties, in 2003. He has been open about it since, and treats that history as professional context rather than confession. What he writes about work, money, sleep and disclosure comes from doing those things with bipolar, not from studying people who do.
Work
Jeff is a technologist and a named inventor on three patents. He has spent two decades arguing that mental health software has been built by and for the wrong audience, and building tech ventures of his own.
Advocacy and testimony
In April 2022 he spoke to the Virginia Senate’s Behavioral Health Commission as a VOCAL Virginia volunteer with lived experience of the Commonwealth’s behavioral healthcare system. Watch the testimony.

How he writes
Every factual claim links to its source. Research reads say what a study measured and what it didn’t. Nothing here is medical, legal or financial advice. The full rules are in the editorial policy.
